Anthropic prices claude-opus-5 at $5 per million input tokens, $0.50 for cached input and $25 for output, exactly half the $10 / $1 / $50 charged by Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for the same 1M-token context and the same reasoning, tool-use and prompt-caching support. Compared with Sonnet 5 the premium runs the other way: 2.5 times its $2 / $10 introductory rate, narrowing to 1.67 times once Sonnet moves to $3 / $15 on 1 September 2026. Against Haiku 4.5 at $1 / $5 the multiple is five. Nothing in the published record separates these models on capability, so this tier is a spend decision: the structure of the top card at half its cost.
